Getting the Kingdom in the Marketplace

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

According to Ephesians 4:11-12 it is the responsibility of pulpit ministers to teach saints to do the work of the ministry, writes Bill Thomas. As ministers in the marketplace, he says it’s our job to be under the authority of a local church house. It is the responsibility of both to be “Kingdom” focused, not solely about getting the world saved, but rather about bringing the Kingdom of God into the workplace.

He offers some facts and figures that get your attention: Statistically, approximately 98 percent of the people in church congregations actively work in the marketplace, where they spend most of their waking hours.

“Unfortunately, except for salvation, many Christians do not know who they are in Christ, or their divine purpose and calling in God’s Kingdom here on earth. We (the Church) have been deceived into thinking that the Kingdom of God will manifest in the future, that ‘church’ refers to a physical building, and that the marketplace is a place where people are forced to work to survive. In addition, many Christians feel inadequate because they are business people and not ‘ministers.’ But scripture is clear in that we are all called to be priests (Revelation 5:10), or a part of God’s kingly order that is only fulfilled within the marketplace.”

Thomas, who is president of CIBN Workplace Ministries, offers a strong, sound word for believers who want to make a difference in the marketplace. Click here to read the rest of the story on the Christian International website.

Amen to this. We are all called to be priests and share God’s word with the world.
