Love Thy Astrologist Neighbor

Saturday, January 05, 2008

Another New Year’s Eve tale… I was headed out to a friend’s house on New Year’s eve, when lo and behold, my neighbor was awaiting me at the elevator. I don’t talk to her much, because she’s into some strange things and we don’t see eye to eye. No sense in arguing. But the Lord has been dealing with me about loving my neighbors more, and what better time than the new year?

So instead of burying my head in my Treo handheld as the elevator took its time climbing to the second floor (it’s an old elevator) I decided to engage my neighbor in conversation. “Hi there,” I said. “How are you?”

A benign question, or so I thought.

She asked me if I was “ready for the night.” I told her I was about as ready as I was going to get, smiled, and suggested that 2008 was going to be a great year. Well, little did I know that would cause her to manifest with her divination-based beliefs.

She asked me what sign I was. You know, Leo, Capricorn, Aries, etc. Of course, I know what my supposed “sign” is, but I didn’t want to turn the conversation that way. So I told her when my birthday was instead and hoped the old elevator would hurry along. She informed me I was a Cancer, and said my comment made her think I was a Capricorn.

Here’s the payoff. Then she proceeded to enlighten me that 2008 was going to be a good “money year” for Capricorns. I told her I wasn’t a Capricorn, but I planned to have a good “money year” anyway.

Then the elevator came. Little did she know, she was standing in the lift with a prophet whose heart was grieved at her deception. This wasn’t the time to correct her false belief system openly. I didn’t encourage it or engage in it, but to correct it with no relationship would have been to speak to the wall. She wouldn’t hear me then, and would shut me out later.

So I am praying for my astrologist neighbor, hoping for an open door to speak the truth plainly or prophetically. Until then, I’ll keep loving my astrologist neighbor as myself.

After all, I used to believe in that junk, too.

What about you? What’s your prophetic evangelism strategy for reaching your neighbors?
